Travel to the beautiful island of St Barths! The island lies about 22 miles (35 kilometres) south-east of Saint Martin. And north-east of the islands Saba, Sint Eustatius and Saint Kitts and Nevis. St. Barths has a population of 9,793 (2016 est.). Gustavia is the capital. Different sorts of cuisine are common on the island. French, West Indian and Creole. Plus Italian and Asian.

Cities

The major towns are:

  • Gustavia, the capital. Conbtains the main harbour.
  • St. Jean, a tiny village. Very popular tourist area with shopping plazas, boutiques and fabulous restaurants.
  • Lorient, the island’s first French settlement. With a fantastic surf beach and a few shops. And a beautiful Catholic church.
  • Corossol, a tiny fishing village. Well known for its straw hats and crafts from palm fronds.

Attractions

St. Barths has a lot of attractions! The most popular attractions are:

  • The yacht club of Gustavia. With many events like the International Regatta in May. The Saint Barth’s Cup, the St Barths Bucket Regatta. And Les Voiles de St. Barth. All three in April. 
  • Gouverneur Beach. A pristine and private beach. And the water is calm and perfect for swimming. 
  • Kitesurfing at Grand Cul-de-Sac Beach.
  • Surfing at Anse des Cayes, Toiny and Lorient.
  • New Year’s Eve, when many celebrities and the wealthy come to the island.
  • Saline Beach, one of the best beaches in the Caribbean.
  • Colombier beach. Unspoiled and only accessible by boat or a half-hour hike.
  • Diving and snorkeling the Nature Reserve of Saint-Barthélemy. With many colorful varieties of coral, reef sharks and spotted eagle rays. And sea turtles!
